No smoking

In the pursuit to make Malaysia a non-smoking nation, the Ministry of health Malaysia has come up with this poster.

When I first saw this poster, I was doing my Community Medicine posting. I felt really disturbed when I saw this poster. Instead of trying to read the prints, I was thinking to myself: "Is there a freak show circus going on this town that features this creature?"

I didn't think at all to read that the poster was how a human's body could end up after many years of smoking.

And when Little Aleya saw this poster in the hospital the other day she asked me:
"Ni manusia ke apa ni? (Is this human or what?)

Trapped in a lift

We never know when and where accidents will happen to us OR people around us. Read on and hope this piece of information may help any of us when things do happen to yourself, our friends and our loved ones.
One day, while in a lift, it suddenly broke down and it was falling from level 13 at a fast speed. Fortunately, I remembered watching a TV program that taught you must quickly press all the buttons for all the levels.

Finally, the lift stopped at the 5th level.
When you are facing life and death situations, whatever decisions or actions you make decides your survival.
If you are caught in a lift breakdown, first thought in mind may be 'waiting to die'...
But after reading below, things will definitely be different the next time you are caught in a lift.

First - Quickly press all the different levels of buttons in the lift.
When the emergency electricity supply is being activated, it will stop the lift from falling further.

Second - Hold on tight to the handle (if there is any).. It is to support your position and prevent you from falling or getting hurt when you lost your balance.

Third - Lean your back and head against the wall forming a straight line.
Leaning against the wall is to use it as a support for your back/spine as protection.

Fourth - Bend your knees Ligament is a flexible, connective tissue. Thus, the impact of fractured bones will be minimised during fall.

Control it or loose it. You choose.

Medical and psychological research has shown that no matter how much you exercise or eat correctly, you are putting yourself at risk if you do not manage your anger. Anger causes a widespread negative effect on the body.

It is important to understand what happens to the body when one becomes angry. In a moment of anger, you may experience muscle tension, grinding of teeth and teeth clenching, ringing in the ears, flushing, higher blood pressure, chest pains, excessive sweating, chills, severe headaches or migraines.

With chronic anger people can also experience peptic ulcers, constipation, diarrhea, intestinal cramping, hiccups, chronic indigestion, heart attacks, strokes, kidney problems, obesity, and frequent colds. Medical experts have found the heart muscle is affected by anger, and anger can actually reduce the heart's ability to properly pump blood.

The results of prolonged anger can harm the body's largest organ, the skin. People who hold in their anger often have skin diseases such as rashes, hives, warts, eczema and acne. Researchers have studied the relationship of anger and skin disorders and discovered that when a person resolves his anger, skin disorders dramatically improve.

One of the major effects anger has on the body is the release of chemicals and hormones, primarily the adrenaline and non-adrenaline. The adrenaline hormones act on all organs that reach the sympathetic nervous system, stimulating the heart, dilating the coronary vessels, constricting blood vessels in the intestines, and shutting off digestion.

Suppressed anger can also have psychological effects, causing depression, eating disorders, addictions to drug and alcohol, nightmares, insomnia, self-destructive behaviors, and can cause disruptions in the way a person relates to others.

Learn to control anger by using the following techniques:

* Meditation
You hear it all the time -- take a deep breath and count to 10. Meditation can allow you to breathe, relax, reflect on the situation and take a critical look at why you're angry.

* Practice forgiveness
Anger often results in resentments, resentments which can be resolved through forgiveness. You do not necessarily have to forgive the person with whom you are angry in a face-to-face meeting; you can forgive in any way that works for you.

* Anger management
Find a clinic that specializes in anger management and proper ways to release deep anger.

* Therapy
Sometimes our anger is so repressed that counseling is the only way to understand it and learn to release and deal with anger issues.

* Talking
Just talking it through with a friend can often help. Vent your frustrations.

* Creativity
Be creative in releasing your anger. Scream into or pound a pillow, dance, take aerobics, do stretching exercises, tear up old newspapers, throw rocks in a safe place, squeeze a ball of clay, kick a ball or pillow, use a punching bag, or take up a sports activity such as basketball, racquetball, soccer or baseball.

No matter what you choose, it is important to learn safe, effective ways to release your anger. The result of prolonged anger can change how your body functions. Anger is a valid emotion and should not be suppressed, but remember to release it in an appropriate and healthy way.

p/s: aku serious tak tahu apakah pergerakan ular sebenarnya.

cara-cara memilih tembikai

Step 1: Choose what size melon you want to purchase. There are many different sizes available--some are enormous and oval, some are fatter and oval and some are the size of basketballs. If you don't plan on eating or serving the entire watermelon that same day (and let's face it -- cold watermelon tastes much better than the kind that's been sitting in the sun or in room temperature all day, unless the supermarket is exceptionally cold), you're going to have to refrigerate all or some of it. Take this into account and ensure you will be able to fit it inside your refrigerator.

Step 2: Choose if you want your watermelon to contain pits or seeds. Seedless watermelons are often non-organic, so take that into account if you only eat natural foods. Also, many people swear by pitted watermelons--they claim they are sweeter. Note that many supermarkets will only offer one kind and not specify what types they are in writing. Ask a supermarket worker before buying your melon.

Step 3: Pick up a watermelon that strikes your fancy and rotate it over in your hands. Inspect it for bruises, discolorations, bumps, dirt or whatever else makes it seem undesirable to you. Bumps often indicate the fruit has been dropped on a hard surface, which likely means part of the flesh inside has been affected.

Step 4: Choose a melon that is medium to light green but not yellowing, with several spots of light green on it. Also look for a large yellow-white spot on it.

Step 5: Tap the watermelon lightly several times. It should sound as though your palm is bouncing off the melon. This indicates the fruit is likely fresh and its flesh is very hard, which is how the best melons taste. The surface should not feel soft--you should not be able to mash it. This indicates the melon is overripe--a side effect of too much refrigeration or general bad condition.

kenapa kita addicted to mamak food

tengok gambar ni, terliur tak? rasa macam nak drive pergi mamak sekarang tak? atau maybe rasa nak lepak mamak malam2 karang? sure ada perasaan tu kan lepas tengok gambar ni.

pernah tak korang terfikir kenapa kita addicted nak lepak/makan kat mamak? mesti pernah kan? siap dulu ada propa yang mengatakan Rajoo's kat jalan gasing tu, kuah kari dia dijampi serapah la. diletak spender/seluar dalam la nak buat sedap. macam-macam cerita over the internet, cerita dibawa mulut orang tentang kenapa kita suka sangat makan kat mamak.

ada banyak sebab sebenarnya kenapa kita suka makan kat mamak. aku suka makan kat mamak sebab kuah dhal. aku memang kalau boleh makan kuah dhal tu macam soup 3 kali sehari pun aku tak kisah. aku memang suka. and aku suka makan roti naan atau chapati and also tandoori chicken. ni makanan wajib aku bila masa aku lepak kat mamak. korang suka makan apa kat mamak?

lagi sebab kenapa kita selalu nak lepak kat mamak kan is because dia ada banyak variety. bukan aja indian/mamak food. ada tom yam pun, makanan goreng2, ada ice cream, ada makanan melayu, makanan thai, western pun ada kadang2, memang variety dia endless la.

then the fact that, korang takyah nak dress up untuk pergi mamak. i mean, cuba korang tengok kat tempat parking tu. dari kereta yang tak patut ada atas jalan, ke motor, ke basikal, ke mercedes, ke lexus, semua ada. and bila masuk mamak, tengok macam2 jenis pangkat orang ada. tapi semua makan ngan harmony. takde la kena wait for table ke apa ke. kau nak pakai kain pelikat, kain batik pun boleh. restoran up class leh ke macam ni? mana leh kan....

pastu service takyah nak tunggu berjam2. kat high end restaurant tu, dah la mahal nak mam, pastu nak tunggu satu2 dish tu, boleh kira baik puasa satu hari la. punya la lama. bila tiba makanan tu, seciput je, harap lawa je lebih. sedap pun lebih kurang je kan. kat mamak, tak sampai 7 minit (yes, aku time them), makanan dah sampai. takyah gaduh apa. ada la mahal sikit kan mamak tu, kadang2 sampai tahap tak berpatutan pun harga dia. tapi masih boleh diterima la as compared to segelas kecil teh tarik yang berharga rm7.80++ kat tempat high-end kan. dia guna susu lembu kobe ke, daun teh dari puncak himalaya ke? ntah apa2 ntah.

then, restaurant lain, mana ada yang 24jam. mamak je yang 24jam. kau lapar pukul berapa, terus je kat mamak, sure buka punya. choice of food dia maybe berkurangan dari peak hours but still the variety is vast. bagus ke tak?

tapi yang paling utama sebenarnya is actually apa yang diletak dalam masakan derang yang buat kita bebetul addicted to it actually. ada satu jenis spice yang digunakan dalam masakan derang yang buat kita macam agak sleepy lepas makan, then esok tu atau malam tu, kita nak lagi makan kat mamak. especially kalau yang makan nasi kandar. dalam kes aku, kuah dhal atau tandoori chicken tu tak letak spice ni, so aku suka makan items ni bukan sebab effect spice tu but because i am a habitual eater. i can eat the same things over and over sampai aku bosan. so far, aku blom bosan lagi la huhuh....

aku dah tau apa nama spice tu. aku nak cari. tengok ada jual ke tak and aku nak beli. so pas ni, kalau siapa yang makan masakan aku and addicted to my food, korang tau2 la kenapa kan... huhuhh....

p/s: kalau addicted to me pun boleh juga **ahakS!!

apa2 pun, at least aku dapat check-up free :)

kutil jerawat

ok, korang tau tak apa tu jerawat? kalau tak tahu, aku pendekkan kata, jerawat tu benda kotor la kan. pastu yang tangan dok suka kutil jerawat tu pun bukan nyer bersih, walau la kita dah cuci beberapa kali. bila kita kutil jerawat, kuman akan berkumpul kat situ and the next thing you know, kalau kita tak cuci muka kerap, tumbuh balik jerawat tu. macam buang karan je mengutil kan?

letter to a burning house

during the evaluation that i do with my psychiatric patients, i have 2 standard situations that i used to evaluate their intelligence based on their judgement. certain answers to these to situations will show what kind of psychiatric condition that the patient is currently suffering from.

of course i won't tell you the answers now. but i am going to give you the situations, and you can try an answer accordingly. so here goes....

situation 1:
"you are walking along an empty road, no passing vehicles, nobody is around. as you are walking, you noticed that there is a burning house right infront. and you hear a baby crying from inside the house. what would you do?"

situation 2:
"you are walking past a postbox. below the box, you see a letter with an address. it has been sealed and stamped. what would you do with the letter?"

good luck!

الله

p/s: i so WANT this pendant!

THIS IS NOT A FICTITIOUS STORY...
IT IS REAL AND VERIFIABLE ...

Vander Hoven, a psychologist from Netherlands, announced his new discovery about the effect of reading the Quran and repeating the word ALLAH both on patients and on normal persons. The Dutch professor confirms his discovery with studies and research applied on many patients over a period of three years. Some of his patients were non-Muslims, others do not speak Arabic and were trained to pronounce the word 'ALLAH' clearly; the result was great, particularly on those who suffer from dejection and tension. Al Watan, a Saudi daily reported that the psychologist was quoted to say that Muslims who can read Arabic and who read the Quran regularly could protect themselves from psychological diseases.

The psychologist explained how each letter in the word 'ALLAH' affects healing of psychological diseases. He pointed out in his research that pronouncing the first letter in the word 'ALLAH' which is the letter (A), released from the respiratory system, controls breathing. He added that pronouncing the velar consonant (L) in the Arabic way, with the tongue touching slightly the upper part of the jaw producing a short pause and then repeating the same pause constantly, relaxes the expiration. Also, pronouncing the last letter which is the letter (H) makes a contact between the lungs and the heart and in turn this contact controls the heartbeat.

What is exciting in the study is that this psychologist is a non-Muslim, but interested in Islamic sciences and searching for the secrets of the Holy Quran. Allah, The Great and Glorious, says, We will show them Our signs in the universe and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to (remember me in your Dua) ALLAHU AKBAR Allah is great .

JOHN HOPKINS-LATEST FINDINGS ON CANCER

i got this from my aunt, who is a healthcare provider in jeddah royal king fahad hospital. i hope it is useful for us.

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc. are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's Aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruit help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetable s 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic build-up.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted anted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, resentment, and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily and deep breathing helps to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

CANCER UP-DATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL, U S A

1. No plastic containers in microwave.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.
Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies.
Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.

This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.

Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

p a r a n o i a

remember that day when i was brimming with anger about the project that i had to prepare and present alone and i was told about this just the night before? well, i am glad and thank God that i did it on my own as opposed to being in the group of the lying, manupulative Kelly Ngs.

so, my topic was PARANOIA and i am pretty sure you guys know why. when i went to the seminar room to present, guess what, the group wasn't even ready with theirs. talk about group work?!?! they even asked for extra time to compile their work. haa!! my slides were done just that morning, and i can tell you that i did a hell lot better than them.

after i presented, i excused myself from the seminar room. i didn't want to hear what they had to say.

i am proud of myself to say the least. they think they can jeopardize my marks by giving me the short end of the stick? well, they sure as hell don't know me. i thrive under pressure.

p/s: i am new at this embedding thing for ppt. so, please excuse the appearance. as you can see, they are some words that are overlapped by the pictures. so sorry. but i hope you enjoy it!

Theorem Aliagoras

based on personal accounts, i have come up with a theory about monkeys. their behavioral state has been confirmed today.

From Drop Box

PLUS

equals to crazy monkeys. seriously, no kidding. they are so crazy that i didn't even make it to the park. i was ATTACKED while i was jogging my way to the park, and i was just running, didn't even disturb them.

they are so effing crazy that because of their recklessness, one of them got hit by an SUV and it still could run to the other side of the road, pretending like nothing happened.

they are damn crazy that i had to take a detour and missed my routine jog in the park.

i guess the rain does not affect human moods only. it affects them monkeys too!

smelly no more?

i was reading miss mrs leave's entry about male axilla and the perculiar smell that it emits that attracts women. i was thinking of pheromones, but it is only in the female human. so, as curiosity got the best of me, i googled it. what is there under that hairy jungle that attracts women?

the answer is: ANDROSTADIENONE (gawsh!! tounge twister!!)

lemme skim the info down to its bare essentials just so that we can grasp what in the world is this thing, eh?

Androstadienone is found in sweat, auxiliary hair, blood and semen. It is a common ingredient used in the manufacture of perfumes and colognes (haa.... no wonder la i am attracted to some male pour homme, if it were used by the right people). this is a chemosignal substance that causes the visual area of the women's brains to be more active and more alert, hence more attracted to the said male. androstadienone can be considered as the male pheromone.

so, next time, when you see a sweaty uber hot male, you choose, take a good whiff or runaway.

ermm.... i'll pass.

PIG this!

disclamer: i am not against pork eating just because i can't. i personally think it is unhealthy and filthy. i found this online, and i want to educate pork eaters of what they are consuming.

*A pig is a real garbage gut. It will eat anything including urine, excrement, dirt, decaying animal flesh, maggots, or decaying vegetables. They will even eat the cancerous growths off other pigs or animals.

*The meat and fat of a pig absorbs toxins like a sponge. Their meat can be 30 times more toxic than beef or venison.

*When eating beef or venison, it takes 8 to 9 hours to digest the meat so what little toxins are in the meat are slowly put into our system and can be filtered by the liver. But when pork is eaten, it takes only 4 hours to digest the meat. We thus get a much higher level of toxins within a shorter time.

*Unlike other mammals, a pig does not sweat or perspire. Perspiration is a means by which toxins are removed from the body. Since a pig does not sweat, the toxins remain within its body and in the meat.

*Pigs and swine are so strong that you can hardly kill them with strychnine or other poisons.

*Farmers will often pen up pigs within a rattlesnake nest because the pigs will eat the snakes, and if bitten they will not be harmed by the venom.

*When a pig is butchered, worms and insects take to its flesh sooner and faster than to other animal's flesh. In a few days the swine flesh is full of worms.

*Swine and pigs have over a dozen parasites within them, such as tapeworms, flukes, worms, and trichinae. There is no safe temperature at which pork can be cooked to ensure that all these parasites, their cysts, and eggs will be killed.

*Pig meat has twice as much fat as beef. A 3 oz T bone steak contains 8.5 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork chop contains 18 grams of fat. A 3 oz beef rib has 11.1 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork spare rib has 23.2 grams of fat.

*Cows have a complex digestive system, having four stomachs. It thus takes over 24 hours to digest their vegetarian diet causing its food to be purified of toxins. In contrast, the swine's one stomach takes only about 4 hours to digest its foul diet, turning its toxic food into flesh.

*The swine carries about 30 diseases which can be easily passed to humans.

*The trichinae worm of the swine is microscopically small, and once ingested can lodge itself in our intestines, muscles, spinal cord or the brain. This results in the disease trichinosis. The symptoms are sometimes lacking, but when present they are mistaken for other diseases, such as typhoid, arthritis, rheumatism, gastritis, MS (multiple sclerosis), meningitis, gall bladder trouble, or acute alcoholism.

*The pig is so poisonous and filthy, that nature had to prepare it a sewer line or canal running down each leg with an outlet in the bottom of the foot. Out of this hole oozes pus and filth its body cannot pass into its system fast enough. Some of this pus gets into the meat of the pig.

the RECYCLE code

The Green Dot
The Green Dot does NOT necessarily mean that the packaging can be recycled. It is a symbol used on packaging in many European countries and signifies that the producer has made a contribution towards the recycling of packaging.

Plastics
Identifies the type of plastic: PET and HDPE bottles are recycled by the majority of local authorities.

Glass
Please dispose of glass bottles and jars in a bottle bank (but remember to separate colours) or use your glass kerbside collection if you have one.

Recyclable Aluminium
Can be placed in an aluminium recycling facility.

Recyclable Steel
Can be placed in a steel recycling facility.

Mobius Loop
Indicates that an object is capable of being recycled - not that the object has been recycled.

Mobius Loop with percentage
Shows the percentage of recycled material contained in the product.

Paper
To be given the National Association of Paper Merchants mark, paper or board must be made from a minimum of 75% genuine waste paper and / or board fibre, no part of which should contain mill produced waste fibre.

Wood
The Forest Stewardship Council logo identifies products which contain wood from well managed forests independently certified in accordance with the rules of the FSC A.C.

Tidyman
Dispose of this carefully and thoughtfully. Do not litter. This doesn’t relate to recycling, but is a reminder to be a good citizen, disposing of the item in the most appropriate manner.
