Fitness Second (Only in Istanbul)

Being ardent gym-goers, Yayah and I decided to take a look at the gym that was in the Azuyade Hotel that we stayed in while we were in Istanbul. We know for sure that we will be piling up on the food, especially me as I love the rustic taste of the food here. From kebabs to turkish coffees to sweet delicacies, I downed them all without minding the calorie count.

But after seeing the gym, I was worried as the equipments look like they were from 1948 and I guess if I were to take a run on the threadmill, I am pretty sure I'll break it in the first 5 mins.

So, in the end, I still ate like there was no tomorrow but killed the calories with 10,000 steps on heels, up hill!

You caught me by surprise

I was all wrong about the riddle that I was supposed to solve. I did put in my list Paris or Italy, but I never mentioned Istanbul, the one place that I really wanted to go since early this year.

I wanted to go there because of the rustic feel of the place. The history, the cheap stuffs that you can get (we got this wrong actually as most of the stuffs are expensive as we stayed in a tourist area), the lovely variety of food (but of course no place beats Malaysia for this), the hot guys (some of them), and of course the view of the sea.

It was a short-lived trip but it was all worth it. We had a great time and I survived the whole trip wearing 4-inch heels! Half of the time, I had to walk with only my socks on because my feet were killing me as the alleys there are made of uneven bricks. Although my feet hurts, I keep on forgetting about it as I was too buzy enjoying the wonderful trip.

Thanks Mamak and Shadi for the lovely trip and thanks to my lovely sisters for putting up with my crazies :)

The riddle

For weeks I was given a riddle to solve:

-Something that I have been asking for
-It is a surprise
-I will definitely love it

And I think I solved it already. So Paris, here we come!!

(To be confirmed if my answer was right or not only on this Friday)

The bus stand

As I was waiting at the bus stand for our ride home, I saw this young lady, all clad in fall clothing and holding a McD's take away drink. She looks unstable. Clearly she is high on something. But in her condition, she still managed to light up a cigarette and balanced herself on her toes while she squatted on the ground, because there were no seats for her.

After an elderly lady left, the young lady managed to pull herself up and sat on the bench, right beside someone. She positioned herself well that it almost looked like an editorial shot for a fashion magazine....

This was the other person beside her that suddenly covered her body up with her scarf and started making squawking sounds like a raven (did she mistaken herself as That's So Raven? hahahha), with the intention of scaring the high young lady.

It was a funny sight as the young lady didn't even bat an eyelid to the person next to her.

^_^

Malaysia ku....

Found this sign in the heart of Vienna.

And MAS was supposed to be internationally known for it's quality? Awww.... come on! Can someone explain this to me??

I can see BUBBLES!

See how happy my face is? I LOVE bubble tea. I really do. The best bubble tea that I have tasted is in Penang. Last time, when I had to travel there frequently, I must make sure that I have my bubble tea fix in Komtar Mall. But now that I don't need to travel there that often, it is kinda hard for me to get my fix.

I have been in Alor Setar for almost a year now. But last wednesday, Saras accidentally made my dream come true. We went to Sentosa Mall to get her phone fixed. And there, tucked in a little corner was a shoplot that sells tidbits and yes, BUBBLE TEA WITH PEARLS!!!!

OMG... was I excited.

Best part is, it is only rm2.80. No need to go to Penang anymore now that my life is complete here.... ^_^

Kiranya it is a family-oriented place la.

Cuba teka siapa paling muda kat situ?

:P

Thank God I have a strong heart.

If I had a weak heart, I am pretty sure I would have been admitted to the intensive cardiac care unit today.

The day started with a sad news of a passing of my friend's grandma.

Then it proceeded to the excitement of my travel.

Then it was injected with the first unexpected element of surprise. The second came 2 hours later. And the third, completes the whole picture.

More surprises to come? Like a Blackberry perhaps?

Segan tersipu-sipu

Nasib baik ada computer free with internet access. Boleh juga aku buang masa.

hati cow dung

serious hati busuk.

i mean come on la. kan ke ada baby kecil, ada new mother. please la, where is your heart, let alone, your brain? takkan takde perasaan simpati kott? aku terkejut dengan kata2 tersebut. ibu alvina dah semakin resah. aku tengok dia macam dah nak nagis pun iye juga. aku dokong alvina dan berkata: "takpe, kita tunggu station master, nnt kita cakap ngan dia and tengok apa dia boleh arrange ok".

dalam hati aku, jika perlu, aku sanggup bayar the difference in ticket fare to mak B, just so that she will give one of the lower berths to alvina and her mum.

aku ingin mengatakan sesuatu, tetapi sila jangan terasa. bukan apa, mak B tu, bertudung litup, pakai stokin cover aurat kaki and all, tapi hati busuk macam tu. macam takde maknanya je kan?

ntah la....

kadang2 aku harap sangat ramadhan sampai setahun tau!

kenapa?

iye la, hari tu masa ramadhan, aku rasa la, rasa je ni, aku tak sukat pun. aku rasa yang aku ada la loose some weight kat rambut aku, kat gigi aku huhuh....

tapi, bila dah raya ni, baru masuk raya ke-3 ok, aku rasa aku dah gain balik weight kat segala tempat yang tak patut!!! huarrrggghhh!!!! X_x

semua sebab makan.

di sini aku nak buat pengakuan:
-aku punya usual diet, terus hancur masa raya sebab apa, sebab aku bukan kat rumah aku sendiri and orang dah pelawa and aku takleh nak tolak sebab aku tak nak orang cakap aku ni mengada atau tak appreciate pelawaan orang. my mum taught me well. aku pandai jaga diri.
-aku terpaksa juga gagahkan diri makan nasi sebab i ran out of excuses not to.
-kuih2 raya yang ada depan mata tu, kalau tak habis satu pinggan, sure diaorang akan duduk sama and make sure habiskan. aku nak kata apa? masuk dalam beg? beg pun aku tak bawa.
-tapi aku tak makan lemang atau ketupat palas. alasan ~>aku tak makan pulut. thank God yang tu boleh diterima akal. huhuhuh.....

tapi yang aku pelik tu, walau derang makan macam mana pun, badan masing2, semua sama ada maintain, atau kurus. tak pulak aku nampak yang gemuk2 kat tempat tu. i think it is all their way of living la kan.

anyway, pas ni, jgn harap aku nak ulang aksi yang sama. serious i am back to my usual diet. huhuhhuh

ma, i AM thinking nak join you all to start balik next week... huhuh... kita buat secara perhubungan jarak jauh ok ;)

p/s: i love you guys and miss you much!!!
pp/s: aku tak regret to stay back and raya kat kedah. it was well worth it. with my family in my heart, my smile never ceased :)

a walk in a park is not actually a walk in a park, more like a gruelling session of calorie burning in a park (for some people that is).

omg, aku sangat suka nature ok. aku ni simple aja. takyah nak susah2. asal kau bawa aku pergi jalan2 kat nature, aku dah happy macam budak dapat makan aiskrim bantal.

so, hari selasa aku pergi sungai gabai. pernah dengar tak? tak pernah kan?? kan?? sila salahkan diri sendiri sebab tak buat research ok. tempat itu mmg AWESOME ok. walau la we all sesat sampai dua kali, the trip was worth it. kalau malas nak workout sket untuk panjat bukit gabai tu, sila tak payah pergi. tempat tu mmg kena panjat bukit punya. baru la adventure kan. but bila dah sampai atas, owhh... sangat puas hati. so, we all lepak kat satu spot ni, kira ok la juga. nasib tak ramai orang, ada la geng ahbengs kat sana kan. mana tau, tetiba ahbengs tu frenly la pulak. siap cabar lagi untuk turun slide kat batu tu. aku mula2 takut la kan. mana tak, batu dowh! silap tarikh, boleh pecah kepala. but one ahbeng told me: "don't think, just go". uuuuu.... sangat wise ok. aku pun kosongkan otak aku (yang mmg agak empty sebenarnya), and swwwooooshhhh..... slide turun. bengkak pungkok juga arr... adoiyayy...

hari selasa pulak, patutnya pergi bukit cahaya. tapi sebab aku dah pergi ngan yah early this year, aku decided nak pergi FRIM cause mmg teringin sangat nak pergi canopy walk dia sebenarnya and also go around the park. after much round2 the mulberry bush, baru la kami jumpa parking and started our journey. nasib ada orang tu baca papan tanda, aku main redah aja. sebab dia baca papan tanda punya pasal, we all turun balik and beli tickets untuk naik canopy walk tu. ingatkan from the start of the hill to the entrance to the hike up tu tak jauh, sekali, amik ko! ada barang 30mins juga la nak masuk ke entrance tu. bila dah sampai at the foot of the hill, kena daki lagi 50m up to get to the walkway. aku yang tak biasa semput ni, dah menitik2 dah peluh. bawa bag sarat lagi ngan barang picnic. tapi takpe cause once we got ourselves on the walkway, penat semua dah hilang. sangat breathtaking ok.

aku macam biasa arr nak main2 kat walkway tu kan, lompat2 and sway the walkway. kui kui kui ada orang takut tu... ntah apa apa ntah. bila sampai kat each platform, ada info that we can read about what we are looking at. sebelum naik walkway tu, ada papantanda yang soh senyap kan, so that we can see wildlife kat sana. but geng yang after us tu, adoiyayy, memekak macam orang pekak. bukan kata binatang, orang pun boleh lari la dengar suara derang.

cuma yang slack pasal canopy walk neh, pendek naa jarak dia... tak puas arr.

info:
-last trip kat walkway tu adalah pukul 1330hrs. kalau lambat, sila takyah panjat bukit tu pun.
-lokasi starting point to canopy walk: cari masjid FRIM. haaa... kat belakang masjid tu la
-kalau semput, sila batalkan niat nak naik. mmg gerenti tak larat nyer.

tapi, kalau nak pergi, ajak la aku ekk :P

masa mula2 sampai tu, cuma ada aku sama BBP je yang mewakili uni kami. yang lain tak nampak batang hidung, especially our doctors. tapi, orang2 kuat UiTM merbok semua dah datang isi tempat kosong. even dr. jamilah yang head the klinik kesihatan merbok pun spared her time to be there.

takde la besar2 sangat actually. but the main thing was the fruits. omg!! sangat banyak ok. berapa ramai yang datang tu, boleh tak habis tau buah2 yang drang hidang. durian tu, siap sorang boleh bawa balik sebiji lagi, kecuali aku la kan sebab aku mmg tak nak pun. tapi apa yang aku pelik tu, cara orang sini makan durian. sangat2 heavy ok. durian tu dimakan dengan pulut dan ditambah santan, gula. itu opsyen 1. opsyen 2 pulak, still the same, tapi gula tukar kepada ikan masin (dabel yu ti eff??). opsyen 3 pula, sama gak, ikan masin tukar kepada inti kueh koci. i was like "whoa!!", tak ke rasa sangat jelak makan macam tu punya heavy?

aku tgk semua bantai makan durian like there is no tomorrow. aku tgk pun aku takut. tak ke panas rasa badan derang? walaupun kemah tu open, bau durian tetap menusuk lubang hidung ku yang macam serombong kapal ni. orang yang tgk aku berdiri tercegat sambil amik video tu, semua tanya "dah makan?". "errr.... saya tak makan durian". tapi sebab aku bz masa tu, jadi aku terlepas la dari soalan yang sama yang datang dari orang yang berbeza.

ada juga cempedak, rambutan, manggis, dan yang paling rare, cucur durian. aku rasa la kan, kalau boleh buat cakotiaw masak durian pun, mesti derang buat. kopi campur durian ke, minyak wangi durian ke, apa2 je la. semua neh derang nak buat dari durian.

masa jalan2 kat area tu, aku tgk geng akua sibuk makan buah dari pokok. aku pun terjah la. sekali tengok derang dok bantai makan langsat. wahh!! aku pun join sekali la. iye la, tgk pokok pun tak berpagar, so, kami tak segan langsung untuk ambil kotak and start petik langsat sampai hampir penuh kotak tu la. iye la kan, nak bawa balik la. sekali tgk, pokok tu bertuan daa!!! adoiyayy... bukan salah kami ok. kami serious tak tahu. buat muka innocent bagai, pastu, pass... leh bawa balik langsat tu :P

nasib aku takde selera nak lunch. punya kenyang makan buah aja.

**bbbuuurrppppp

[sila jangan risau. takde bau durian ok]

SRJK (C) Kou Hua

law of attraction, law of attraction. i want to follow the school team to do health screening.

but initially that morning, we were told by the nurses that we might not make it because this week is exam week for most schools. but i kept on praying, hoping that somehow we can go. and after a few phone calls, we got a school that was exam free. not many students were to be screened but at least we got the experience.

the screening started off with a small talk given by the staff nurse of personal hygiene and why shots like this are given in schools. the children were very cooperative albeit being naughty. they participated in the talk by answering Qs from the nurses and also from us, doctors-in-training.

right after that, the girls were lined up for the eye check using the Snellen's test, while the boys are lined up for another check, the scrotal feel. some were shy, some were "whatever". it was funny to see the 7 year olds laughing at each other and taking a sneak peak at their friend's privates. after that, the boys were in line to join the girls and the physical check-up begins. since we were around, we did the heart and lungs screening as well. i detected 2 abnormal lung sounds in the standard 1 children and anita detected one in the standard 6 children. the nurses were elated that we detected these cases and they asked us to write a referral for each case to the MOs of Hospital Kuala Nerang (more of this later).

it is weird that there was only ONE chinese girl in the standard 1 group. the nurse had trouble explaining to her what she needs to do and what she needs to inform her parents about her eyesight. but she couldn't quite understand. thank God for my not-too-good mandarin, i tried my level best to explain to her what she needs to do. and she somewhat understood me. she left the room smiling, knowing well that she is ok except for her eyesight. thanks jo-ee for those mandarin tutoring.

towards the evening, we had a talk with encik ali about the new door to pass the thai border, and some other stuffs. i wasn't concentrating because i was using the net :D. once he left us, we started la...clowning around with the mic and all. it was just something to let the pressure out of us :).

at last, before we left the building for the day, photoOP time....

KK Kuala Nerang

all these while, we are always posted in the hospitals. never anywhere else. now, that we are in the district health office posting, it is so much different. the equipments are less, they are always short-staffed, they have problems with the buildings, the list of problems are never ending. but no matter what, they still strive to make things work. when we met with the doctors here, they infact told us that they prefer working in the district clinics and hospitals as it is more challenging. i can't see myself working in this kind of setting yet, but i am opening my options to give it a try as soon as i am done with my housemanship. i mean, if we are too used with a routine environment, we will never learn anything right? i admire their efforts and their spirits especially the nurses. they are more calm and collected here as compared to those that i have been working with in HSAH albeit the fact that they have all the facilities there. i guess, when you have less things to work with, and you are forced to make do, you will be more thankful and more happy that you are strong enough to take in the challenge.

i know i can, and i am sure willing to try!

kudos to the health care workers in primary and district settings!!

the carnival

“We must be there (Felda Bukit Tembaga) at 0700hours”, Thava answered my question when I asked him what was our rendezvous time for Thursday’s activity. Now, be clear that FBT is situated 20km away from our homestay in Taman Sri Emas, Kuala Nerang. This means that we must start our journey at least at 0630hours. Imagine what time we had to get up to get ready as there are only 2 bathrooms in our house that has to be used by 11 people!

Anyway, we did make it on time to FBT. The problem was, they were not! We waited there until about 0900 hours, when only then the cars from PKD Kuala Nerang started to show up. They unloaded their equipments and materials that were to be used for the health carnival in FBT that day.

At about 1000 hours, we started the health carnival with an aerobic exercise session that was headed by the ladies of FBT. Surprisingly, they had more stamina than most of us and the moves that they used during the exercise made me feel that I had two left feet! The ladies of FBT that also joined us for the aerobics session let us steal the show by making us stand in the front row. We had a lot of fun during the session and wished that we had much more of that.

After the session, some of us went back to the homestay to freshen up, while some of us stayed in FBT to be freshened with snacks like currypuffs and local kuehs, and warm tea, served by the people of FBT. We also helped them in unloading the carrier vans and moving the furniture to accommodate the health carnival that were to take place in an hour.

The carnival started off rather slow. But as soon as the day turns to noon, more and more people started flooding in. There were stalls that sells locally produce health remedies, they were booths from PKD Kuala Nerang that concentrates on health promotion and health screening, and they were also other booths from private companies that offers free eye checks and many more. Apart from the health related promotion booths, there were also cooking competitions that were held inside the hall. The ladies of FBT conquered this event, hands down. The fried rice that were creatively prepared looked and smelled very delicious indeed. The mixture of fruit juices were also on display to be judged by anyone who was willing to taste.

In the parking lot, we could see the exhibition mobile of Pokok Sena Prison and also a fire truck from the Kuala Nerang Fire Department. The prison exhibition mobile was there to educate people on how the life of a prisoner would be and the equipments that are used to pass a sentence to the criminal. We saw some used canes and hanging rope. We were also shown the video on how the caning takes place. After seeing the video, we were sure to not do anything that will land us in a prison! The fire department was there mainly to educate youths on the job opportunities that they offer. They do also answer any queries that we had on firefighting techniques.

Towards lunch time, we could see more people coming to the carnival, mainly school-going children. They were excited with the carnival as much as we are, which was a sight to see. They moved from one booth to another to gather knowledge and of course the free posters that were given away. They enjoyed themselves during the Q & A session that was done by the AADK (Agensi Anti Dadah Kerajaan).

After we were served lunch, we spent most of the time idling. This was because there weren’t any villagers that were around at the carnival. We were waiting for our briefing session with the UPK (Unit Promosi Kesihatan) of PKD Kuala Nerang. After much waiting, the HOD of the UPK sector finally arrived. He briefed us on the responsibilities and programs that is under UPK and answered the many questions that we had for him.

All in all, it was a tiring day for us as we did not get enough rest and the sun was unforgivingly hot. But the most important thing was that we enjoyed the carnival and found it very interesting. After the briefing session with the representative from UPK, we were allowed to go back, which by the way, was what we needed most at that point of time, to get some much needed rest.

night duty with the Vektorians

i was elated when i heard the news that we were going to take blood samples for malaria and filariasis that night. i wanted to go and do this as this is the only time that we will ever get a chance to do this. i guess my practice of the "law of attraction" did really pay off.

i didn't actually had enough sleep the day prior. if i am not mistaken, my calculations told me that i only had 4 hours of sleep for the past 2 days. my head was spinning out of control and i couldn't open my eyes. but i pushed that aside, plaster a smile on my face, and braved the night. i took over the driving as we were going through a trunk road and we were going fast to get there on time.

as soon as we reached, many of the workers fled the area. mainly because they thought we were from the immigration. but some of them stayed as they had nothing to worry about, permit wise. we registered the workers that stayed on and started the sample collection. at first, we weren't allowed to do the procedure. but being someone that wants to learn, i opened my mouth and asked if were can give it a try. the PKA (pembantu kesihatan awam) then allowed me to have a go.

my head was still spinning. tried my best to concentrate, and i did. they were taunting me on pricking the workers but i just smiled and said: "hey, come teach me la, i want to learn". one of the workers was actually shaking because he was afraid od the needle. i told him not to shake so much as it will be difficult for me to do the procedure smoothly. after the prick, he calmed down. i was assisted by the PKA and the Vektorians on how to go about doing the procedure. they were really helpful.

after the first batch was done, we made a move to the second area. the head Vektorian asked me to do the registration, which i was more than glad to do. at least i wasn't idling. all of the second batch samples were taken by the PKA. we were busy snapping pictures and some were watching the soccer match that was on the telly. we got about 21 samples that night as most of the workers fled the area. we could have gotten more, if they were notified earlier. the workers are from various countries: myanmar, bangladesh, indonesia, malaysia.

the drive back was as challenging as the drive there as my headache was killing me. we made a few stops to send the Vektorians home along the way. the Vektorians also invited us to have a postwork drink with them at one of the eateries along the way. we made a 40mins drink stop. when we drove back, the Vektorians told us to go back on our own as they wanted to hang around in a friend's house. they gave us accurate directions and we found ourselves back in Kuala Nerang town in 15mins. thank God!

the headache persisted. as soon as we reached home, had my shower, got ready for bed.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................

i slept with happy thoughts. alhamdulillah.....
