wake up your brain!

QUESTION: what do the government hospitals in malaysia have?

ANSWER: 100% show, 0% performance (literally.....)

i can't quite remember in which ward i saw a photocopy of a newspaper cutting from BERITA HARIAN stating that this hospital (the one that i am currently posting in), is, i quote, "hospital tercanggih". by "canggih" it means that this hospital is well equipped, has the latest ventilating system to decrease the rate of nosocomial infection, has a congregation of staffs that are friendly, knowledgable, high performance (as you have read my previous posts, i don't think this is anywhere near true), and loads more that contribute in the tagging of this hospital as HOSPITAL CANGGIH.

i BEG to differ......

i have never mentioned this, but a few weeks back, while we were having a discussion in the counselling room that is supposed to be used as a place for doctors to talk to family members (but we used it because there were insufficient seminar rooms to discuss in, so much so for the canggihness), we noticed that there was a pail in the middle of the room. we also saw that a part of the ceiling was taken off. initially, we disregard it and passed it off as a minor leakage. but as the discussion progresses, the most unthinkable happened, water was practically gushing out from the hole in the ceiling. GOD knows where did the water came from. from what we saw, it looked like it came from some washing area (prolly the toilet?) because we could see soap bubbles and the colour of the water was murky. i was the first to run out from the room, in fear of contracting somekind of GOD forsaken waterborne disease.

due to the canggihness of this hospital, they can't even afford to change the broken locks of the cubicle doors in the toilets. they also can't fix the head of a pipe that has come off and because of this, water wastage is happening every single second (even now!!). maybe, just maybe, this is all just trivial to them. they only deal with canggih matters.

so much so for being TERCANGGIH, today (i have never experienced this in ANY hospitals that i have been to and in) there was a MAJOR blackout, like the WHOLE hospital. gawsshhh!!! imagine how canggih is that??

we were just about done examining a MALE patient who has BREAST CANCER (i was like so blahdy excited! this is my first time ever to have this patient. and the surgeon chose me to examine the patient!! woot! woot!), when all of a sudden....poof*...... the whole ward went dark. we thought maybe it was just the room that we were in. we went out and saw that the whole place was dark, the only light sources that were available were from outside and from the emergency lights.

lucky for us, the main door that is electronically locked was unlocked during the blackout. if not, we were gonna be stuck in the ward till the power comes up!!

after making the great escape from the ward, it was time to rush back to campus for the 2nd part of the day. as i am carpooling with mr. pooh, we went to his car in the lot. and this was what we saw.....

waaaahhhhh~~~ so tere want this driver. he could squeeze his car lidis one!! maybe his car is a hybrid and it turned out to be a 4-wheel drive old skool proton saga! (-_-") can you imagine? such a big ass hospital with a nursing college and hostel blocks in its compound to boot, has not enough parking space to accomodate the number of visitors or patients that come by to the hospital.

if this driver's car jahanam, i don't know la what to say. dah la he/she has to go to the hospital. then, out of desperation, has to park lidis. then, if the car is damaged in any way possible, that will be such a misfortune for the driver.

so much so for HOSPITAL TERCANGGIH.....

Journey in the firecar (haiku)

in the firecar we went
all four of us
to go back to fill my empty vessel with knowledge.
journey started at 2055
but paper said 2045
biasak la, malaysian time.
although we had late lunch
the kugiran bands in our stomachs played their tunes
"aku lapar" is the number 1 in the charts.

before the firecar moved
we made our moves
dived, nose first, into our bentos (bekalan la bak kata jepun).
after our bento dinner
the eyes were automatically sleepy
so apa lagi, membuta time la.
althought it is a firecar
it felt like the north most part of alaska
we were all frozen in our sleep.
we looked like we were sleeping
but we were fighting a war
against the uncomfortable seats (damn it!).
"are we there yet?"
a question that no one likes to hear
but i sure like to ask.
around 0500, i woke up and went out of the cabin
tak tahan dowh sejuk
warmed myself (tapi macam takde effect je).
jalan-jalan cari kantin (macam bangang je kantin)
dreaming of super hot drink
last-last, diri sendiri yang hot sebab kantin tutup (tapi workers ada sana??!!?).

hampeh.....
upon arriving
with face without shame
i changed my pants discreetly in the cabin itself (sebab nak terus gi hospital).
finally, the land that we were waiting for (mainly sebab nak naik katil la)
i go hospital
3 angels go zzzzzzz in hotel suite.
my advice:
firecar no good for long journey if your seat cannot recline 180degree
firecar can be fun or nightmare, GOOD LUCK!

Nombor pin ATM yg diterbalikkan (is this for REAL?)
siapa dah try nnt, kasi tau red apa citer arr :P

do not disreCARD

i got this off the mail and i wanted to share this with the world. ok, so maybe the stories aren't true and prolly all made up from the figment of the imaginations of a bored midget still living with his mum (sorry midgets, no offense.... *peace*). but just for the sake of being aware and my need to make sure that you lot with CREDIT CARDS, be extra cautious, please read on.

moral from these scenes: PLASTIC is bad in so many ways!

SCENE 1.

This is a new one. People sure stay busy trying to cheat us, don't they?
A friend went to the local gym and placed his belongings in the locker. After the workout and a shower, he came out, saw the locker open, and thought to himself, 'Funny, I thought I locked the locker. Hmm.' He dressed and just flipped the wallet to make sure all was in order. Everything looked okay - all cards were in place.
A few weeks later his credit card bill came - a whooping bill of $14,000! He called the credit card company and started yelling at them, saying that he did not make the transactions. Customer care personnel verified that there was no Mistake in the system and asked if his card had been stolen. 'No,' he said, but then took out his wallet, pulled out the credit card, and yep - you guessed it - a switch had been made. An expired similar credit card from the same bank was in the wallet. The thief broke into his locker at the gym and switched cards.

Verdict: The credit card issuer said since he did not report the card missing earlier, he would have to pay the amount owed to them. How much did he have to pay for items he did not buy? $9,000! Why were there no calls made to verify the amount swiped? Small amounts rarely trigger a 'warning bell' with some credit card companies. It just so happens that all the small amounts added up to one big one!

SCENE 2.

A man at a local restaurant paid for his meal with his credit card. Thebill for the meal came, he signed it, and the waitress folded the receipt and passed the credit card along. Usually, he would just take it and place it in his wallet or pocket. Funny enough, though, he actually took a look at the card and, lo and behold, it was the expired card of another person. He called the waitress and she looked perplexed. She took it back, apologized, and hurried back to the counter under the watchful eye of the man.
All the waitress did while walking to the counter was wave the wrong expired card to the counter cashier and the counter cashier immediately looked down and took out the real card. No exchange of words --- nothing! She took it and came back to the man with an apology.

Verdict: Make sure the credit cards in your wallet are yours. Check the name on the card every time you sign for something and/or the card is taken away for even a short period of time. Many people just take back the credit card without even looking at it, 'assuming' that it has to be theirs.

FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DEVELOP THE HABIT OF CHECKING YOUR CREDIT CARD EACH TIME IT IS RETURNED TO YOU AFTER A TRANSACTION!

SCENE 3:

Yesterday I went into a pizza restaurant to pick up an order that I had called in. I paid by using my Visa Check Card which, of course, is linked directly to my checking account. The young man behind the counter took my card, swiped it, then laid it on the counter as he waited for the approval, which is pretty standard procedure. While he waited, he picked up his cell phone and started dialing. I noticed the phone because it is the same model I have, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then I heard a click that sounded like my phone sounds when I take a picture. He then gave me back my card but kept the phone in his hand as if he was still pressing buttons. Meanwhile, I'm thinking: I wonder what he is taking a picture of, oblivious to what was really going on. It then dawned on me: the only thing there was my credit card, so now I'm paying close attention to what he is doing. He set his phone on the counter, leaving it open. About five seconds later, I heard the chime that tells you that the picture has been saved.
Now I'm standing there struggling with the fact that this boy just took a picture of my credit card. Yes, he played it off well, because had we not had the same kind of phone, I probably would never have known what happened. Needless to say, I immediately canceled that card as I was walking out of the pizza parlor. All I am saying is, be aware of your surroundings at all times. Whenever you are using your credit card take caution and don't be careless . Notice who is standing near you and what they are doing when you use your card.
Be aware of phones, because many have a camera phone these days. When you are in a restaurant and the waiter/waitress brings your card and receipt for you to sign, make sure you scratch the number off. Some restaurants are using only the last four digits, but a lot of them are still putting the whole thing on there.
I have already been a v ictim of credit card fraud and, believe me, it is not fun. The truth is that they can get you even when you are careful, but don't make it easy for them.

4 hangouts and a big fat smile

i wanted so much to wake up late today (by late, i mean, 0700hours). but this did not happen as i was awaken by some chitty chatters that were coming from the kitchen (see, the KITCHEN in this house is like a meeting point, or shall i say, a confessional booth. almost everything under the sun that occured in someone's life in this family, will be told there, in the KITCHEN). i deciphered the voices belonging to mama and yah. wahhhh!!! how come they wake up earlier than me one? try alia.....try your best to go back to sleep. as everyone already know, i suffer from insomnia, MAJOR! i couldn't go back to sleep no matter how tired or sleepy i was. oh yeah! today is supposed to be national cancer centre day, and of course, meeting up with jo-ee!! so, i pulled myself out of bed, said my prayers, and headed for the KITCHEN.

chicken risolles: these are the oh-so-blahdy-tempting finger food that yah was preparing.
i was welcomed by the smell that only heaven could compare (ok, i like to be a little dramatic, so excuse me). i was practically holding my own hand, forcing it to stop from taking one of these mouthwatering risolles. and then, like this was not enough, mama had to torture me by making mini muffs that has the fragrance that you could almost taste them in your mouth.

orange poppy mini muffs: temptation that turned into torture (for me).

after getting all the snacks done, as usual, we were fighting over who gets to get ready first. naturally, i am the in-wash-out kind of person. so, it does not really take me much time to spend in the shower. as for nana, she was told to go in first because she could take up to 40mins just to wash herself! aiiyaaa.... 40mins, i can cycle half way to tanjung dawai already leyy..... (-_-")
and off we went to the national cancer center to be volunteers for the day in helping people and patients to understand more about surviving cancer and how to make the best out of whatever time frame that still remains.

Dr. Katherine (i hope i got her name right...): the director of national cancer center malaysia giving a small greeting speech to the participants of today's awareness programme.

Adeline: the head coordinator of the awareness programme. a cancer survivor.

volunteers
Master Qi Gong: an 11 years cancer survivor. suffered from colon CA and lymphoma. still strong.
"we were all born with one disease in us: LAZYNESS"
mama and i putting qi gong to good use: i was actually falling asleep as i am not good in concentrating in these kind of things. mama claims that she was SWEATING (but we were only doing the breathing exercise, how leyy?).
before the programme ended, jo-ee and i decided to do some hangout in KLCC. gawsh!! it has been sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long since we last hung out together and we had tonnes of (shortlived) fun! she wanted ice-cream so much, we ended up flirting with the ice-cream ppl (they started first k). did a spot of window shopping and of course, WALKING around as usual.
*snicker snicker snicker*

of course camwhorring was TOP on the agenda.

after KLCC, i was supposed to be meeting nana for a spot of badminton. turned out, we had to cancel that because the court wasn't available. so i ended up going around for a bit more and founf some odd stuffs. i really LOVE looking for weird stuffs in weird places because this is what a trendsetter does heheheh.....

finally, when i got home, it was not even 30mins later that we had to go out already for mama farida's b'day bash in nek pusing's place. it was an intimate gathering of super close family and friends. the food were flowing non-stop, one after the other. lucky i had some fruits before i went, or else, i would have taken and shove everything on the table, down my throat! delish looking, tempting food!

quarter of the food that were served. gawwsshh!!! you can never imagine what else that were served before and after this spread.

WARNING: never go to their houses on an empty stomach! you can never stop eating!

and now it is 2341hours. i just finished this blog. i woke up at 0645hours, i was out since 0915hours. my life is crazy hectic but it sure is FUN!

*smiles*

dr. jekyll and mr. pelik

10th april 2008: as usual, i went to the hospital today praying hard that nothing close to bad will happen to me. i guess i am on GOD's hotline as my prayers were answered.

i couldn't really sleep last nite as i was anxious about sitting for an exam today (nothing to do with my studies, it is one of those blahdy LAN subs). in the end, i woke up at 4am and did some reading (triple reading) to freshen up my knowledge. i was thinking of skipping ward today as the hospital docs are taking us fr discussion. this means that we have a 50% chance that mr. pelik will be handling my group. but when i think abt it again, i said to myself:

"aiiyahhh.... jes fecking go la. what the hell wants to happen, let it. least you know that you do not succumb to being a coward and let him win this battle"

so, with a heavy heart, but an open mind, i went to the hospital. my gameplan was to pretend to clerk a patient while reading some notes for the exam. initially, that was what had happened. but my desire to learn from the patients overcame the need to read the notes, as my patient was very cooperative and very informative.

*clerk clerk clerk*

then, the very much awaited (not really) discussion time came. weird.... none of the docs came to us. so, we waited some more till mr. pooh got a call, asking all of us to go to the scope room. like a child running wild in a candy store, i went to the operation theater area, where the scope room is.

*put on scrubs*

in the scope room, mr. GQ, HOD of surgery and mr. pie, were there conducting the endoscopy and colonoscopy, each. i was glad to see that mr. pelik wasn't there. i was even more glad to see that mr. GQ, my fav surgeon, were taking our group. everything went on well untill.....

*my heart almost came to a halt*

the voice of mr. pelik (read: extremely LOUD) resonated all over the scope room. he was babbling away like as if he had mouth diarrhea (but then again, there is this saying that says "an empty vessel is always the loudest). the way he told the other students to get out of his way was like the way someone would shoo away stray dogs. i was lucky that i wasn't standing with that group as i was assisting mr. GQ with his scope procedure. i was looking rather closely to screen that i did not notice mr. pelik came and stood right beside me.

"kebelakangan sikit ye. tak yah nak tgk screen dekat-dekat. haa... tengok jauh sikit baru nampak", he said w/out any not of sarcasm and the tone was, dare i say this, SUBTLE.

in my mind, he prolly didn't even know it was me. maybe he thought that i was someone else.

as i was holding the patient, mr. pelik kept on saying:

"takyah pegang patient, biar dia relax"

so, i let go and then he started holding the patient because the patient was fighting the scope entry. and then, all of a sudden...... our paths collided that our hands BRUSHED against each other. iiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww.............scary..........

*i need to peel off that area of my skin now (-_-")*

seriously, today, he really is PELIK because he seems to be subtle with me. i only have this to note:
  • maybe he didn't realize it was ME
  • maybe because i was not in any way stimulating his nerve circuit that has long been short
  • maybe he finally saw that i am determined no matter what, to learn. not even his classics can bring my spirit down
  • maybe, just maybe, he does have a split personality (i am going for this one)

on another note:

a smart aleck ms. biglips (my groupmate), made a fool of herself infront of mr. GQ. to me, if you don't know something, jes shut the fecking up. instead, she decided to act smart and answer mr. GQ's question with an utterly dumb answer. we were in the scope room, so the question goes like this:

"why do we scope this patient who has signs of a post stroke episode?"

ms. biglips answer was: "because he is an alcoholic"

i nearly died laughing when i heard this. i answered the question and my answer was correct. i am glad that i could ans the HOD and i was happy that the HO confirmed my other answers to questions from the HOD regarding the same patient.

moral is, TAKYAH LA NAK BERLAGAK PANDAI!

btw, do you know the answer?

*snicker snicker snicker*

"I MUST get my daily fix of picking on her", said S/N batuapi.

it was a successful whole day in the ward yesterday as i was not picked on regarding anything that i was wearing, doing, walking, breathing....or LIVING. i wanted to see the number on my "how many days till the next picking session" counter go up to 3 (since i cleared day 1 and 2). but in the end, i have to reset the counter back to 0. today, on the 9th of april 2008, this was what happened:

disclaimer: i am writing what happened in Malay because i think it is far far far more funnier :P

seperti biasa, aku masuk ke ward hari ini dengan memakai baju kurung. tapi, aku malu ingin mengatakan bahawasanya, baju kurung yang aku pakai hari ni, bukanlah milikku (cehh.... macam tajuk lagu la pulak). infact, baju ini adalah milik rakan ku yang berbangsa india. aduiisshhh..... satu penamparan hebat aku terasa menusuk diri ku. apa kes la macam ni kan? aku ni yang sepatutnya ada banyak baju melayu. aiiishhh.... malu malu.... tapi nak buat macam mana? aku ada 3 pasang sahaja baju melayu di sini (sebenarnya aku ada 2 pasang je, yang satu lagi tu, aku me"minjam" mak aku punya). aku punya budget lari bila aku ada 5 hari untuk masuk wad, tapi tak cukup baju kurung. takkan la nak recycle baju sama dalam seminggu kan? nnt tu pun akan jadi satu masalah negara antarabangasa bagi mr. pelik dan S/N batuapi.

balik ke cerita asal (macam mana aku leh cerita kisah sedih baju melayu aku ni? pada sesiapa yang nak belikan aku lagi baju melayu, silakan lah. boleh contact aku utk dapatkan size ye ;)

aku clerk aku punya patient macam biasa la. aku ni tak biasa pakai baju melayu sangat. tambahan pula, kat sini cuaca sangatlah panas walaupun hari2 hujan. aku dah berpeluh2 dah ni. jadi, untuk kurangkan proses respirasi aku, aku pun lipat le lengan kurung tu sehingga ke atas siku. ini juga memudahkan aku untuk periksa patient dan membasuh tangan selepas memeriksa satu patient.

beginilah rupanya setelah aku lipat lengan tangan kurung itu (i just folded the lengan k, not that i walked around nekked or what). mr.pelik tengah buat round sama team dia masa tu. dia takde cakap or comment menda pasal pemakaian aku pada hari ni. sesudah aku clerk patient, aku pun pergi jumpa group mate aku. pada masa yang sama, mr. pelik telah keluar dari ward kerana telah selesai melakukan round.

tetiba, dengan aku tak perasan nya, S/N batuapi datang ke arah ku dan memegang manja tangan ku sambil cuba menurunkan lipatan lengan kurung ku itu. sambil sambil tu, S/N batuapi berkata:

"angkat lengan tinggi dik?" secara sinis

dengan muka yang takde perasaan, aku menjawap:

"panaslah cik"

aku lipat lengan kurung pun nak dijadikan isu. bukannyer aku pakai sleeveless.

haiishhh....

now, my day-counter is 0 (-_-) , if lidis, when la i can break my personal record (actually i have yet to set one).
